I was a little apprehensive at first, bringing the whole family to Summer Camp but it was one of the best things we’ve done as a family and so glad we did it! It was our first time camping and we probably over equipped ourselves and the car was absolutely stuffed but we didn’t regret it. We travelled with Emily (6) and Jamie (2) who quickly made friends with the other children, playing and chatting in the middle of the campsite until sunset most days.

In preparation, we got a camping stove and folding kitchen set up which was great for a quick bacon sandwich after morning beach training, but we also popped into Croyde Village (short walk, even faster drive) for breakfast a couple of times, and realised that it’s pretty easy to not have to cook as well if you choose not to. It’s right next to the Ruda Holiday Village as well so a five minute walk for a little grocery store, fish and chips and a couple of other eating places too as well as the nice pubs in Croyde for food and drinks.

We took turns taking Emily up to one of the two local beaches for the morning training sessions which were a good mix of technical and physical training, some wet and some dry sessions while enjoying beautiful views of the bay. Usually, whoever wasn’t with Emily would have a bit more of a lie in and then bring Jamie to watch the training and have a morning snack and a play on the beach.

A short break to get some food and then we usually did one or two of the seminars delivered by a brilliant team of instructors; there were many instructors at camp to help with tips and advice which was really useful. For lunch, sometimes went into town to weigh in on great ice cream debate… Old Cream Shop and Tea Garden (also have yummy pasties) Vs Croyde Ice Cream Parlour!

There were a couple of rest days as well which was great for some sight seeing, visiting Woolacombe Bay, taking the children to a nice soft play, even managed to catch a cricket match! With a quiz, rounders, BBQs, football, beaches, asking Mr and Mrs Swain technical questions about sine wave, there was lots to do for all the family all week and we had a fantastic time – I wish I knew how brilliant and family friendly it was before!

We had such an amazing time, making friends, meeting new people and living life outside for the week that we were really sad to leave. We take away some great family memories and are looking forward to seeing everyone again at PUMA Day and future events!
