This Sunday saw the return of PUMA Squad Training and it was great to see students in person once more. Obviously there are still many restrictions which limited exactly what we could do but everyone who attended still seemed to enjoy the session.
After a warm up Mrs Swain led the technical portion of the session. As this was the first live session for well over a year a lot of time was spent working on technical basics which are the cornerstone of successful patterns competitors. The remainder of the first hour was then spent looking at kicking with some great tips and pointers fr students to take away and practice.
After a staggered drinks break it was on to the sparring section which was led by Mr Swain. Restrictions meant that it was not possible to do any partner work or actual sparring and so this section concentrated primarily on movement drills combined with different techniques/combinations. Despite not being able to work with partners students finished with some reaction work as well, a great way to start getting students back into sparring before restrictions are further eased.
After another staggered break it was onto the physical section led by Mr. Lammin. 24 short rounds of HIIT worked the entire body with pretty much every muscle group covered through a combination of strength and cardio exercises. By the end of this you could really see how hard everyone had worked, a fantastic effort for the first session back! A 10 minute stretch and cool down to finish the session was just what the doctor ordered.
For the coaching team it was great to see so many people back working hard in a face to face session. We would like to thank everyone who supported this session and also all of those who supported the online sessions that we have been running over the past 15 months. We look forward to seeing even more people back training as restrictions continue to ease and we continue to slowly return to normality. The dates of the autumn sessions will be published very soon for you all to mark in your diaries.
