PUMA Summer Camp Instructors

The 2019 PUMA Summer Camp will be lead by Mr Daniel Lammin VI, Mr David Pixton V and Mr Nick Evans V. Through the weekend and week they wil be assisted by various other PUMA Instructors to ensure the attendees experience a broad range of styles and topics. Summer camp is a great opportunity to train and get to know the camp leaders, P.U.M.A.s Masters and many senior grades who all willing give their time, experience and knowledge to help the PUMA students grow and improve.

Mr. Lammin is the head coach of the very successful PUMA Squad and a member of the ITF England national coaching team having coached many World and European Champions. First as a competitor and more recently as a coach he has travelled extensively having trained, competed, coached and taught around the world. Mr. Lammin has been training in Taekwon-Do since the 1st of October 1991, running his own school since May 2003 and attended every summer camp since 1995 giving him a vast depth of experience to draw from. In recent years Mr. Lammin has joined P.U.M.A.’s Masters as one of the regular instructors on both summer and winter camps.

When not on official duties at summer camp Mr. Lammin can often be found under his event shelter cooking up a storm on the BBQ, surfing or in Croyde village sampling the local pasties, ice-creams or a “lemonade” at one of Croyde’s fantastic public houses.

Nick Evans V Degree

Mr Evans V is known for his fitness, body weight strength training and mobility work in PUMA.

Within PUMA Mr Evans has recently joined the Black Belt Grading Panel to run the Spirit Tests and has been the PUMA Tournament Coordinator for over 12 years. In this time her has run more than 30 tournaments including all the PUMA Open and International tournaments. Mr Evans runs the Movewell Taekwondo School in Royal Wootton Bassett and much of his Taekwondo teaching incorporates movement and mobility improvements to enhance Taekwondo skills. He is always willing to share his knowledge and experience of training and improving a students movement quality. His teaching style is relaxed and focuses on personal student improvements but for those that want it he will show you how to suffer by training every inch of your body…but only if you ask 🙂

When not training he can be found with his family and friends drinking tea and eating fish or fruit 🙂

Mr Pixton V is one of PUMAs most respected instructors and in his prime was probably the most successful competitor on PUMA winning many medals for patterns, sparring and destruction at national and international competitors. In addition to his incredible taekwondo knowledge and capability he has also studied many other martial arts including groundwork, BJJ, weapons and thai boxing – a walking encyclopedia of martial arts knowledge. Always willing to share his knowledge with any student regardless or age or grade, he can often be found after a training session going through basic ground work with a group of willing…participants…come rain or shine!

Truly an inspiration to train with and be taught by.

When not training he can be found with his family and friends relaxing and often sleeping 🙂

Master Ray Gayle is the chairman of P.U.M.A. He is an eighth degree black belt and has been training in Taekwon-Do for 40 years. He competed very successfully for a number of years at a national and international level achieving British and European titles and the award of International Fighter of the Year. He no longer competes but is devoted to passing on his knowledge of Taekwon- Do to other people. His proudest moment was meeting, and being graded to sixth degree by, the (now late) founder of Taekwon-Do Major General Choi Hong Hi 9th Degree. Master Choi Jung Hwa, the son of the founder of Taekwon-Do, awarded him his seventh degree in April 2005. He has been attending and then running Summer Camp’s since the late 1970’s!

Master Ogborne started his Taekwon-do journey in 1978 undertaking his first grading (with an “A” pass) under First Grand Master, Rhee Ki Ha, the pioneer who brought Taekwon-do into the UK. He later also took his Black belt grading under Grandmaster Rhee at his academy in Glasgow in 1982 and his 3rd degree under Grand Master He Il Cho. For his 6th Degree he travelled to Norway and was examined by a panel from the International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF), and his Master’s Degree (7th Dan) was awarded in the Republic of Ireland by the son of the founder of Taekwon-do, Choi Jung Hwa in March 2006.

Master Ogborne was a great competition athlete, having been a 5 times British sparring champion and receiving gold medals at the World Open Taekwon-do championships 1988 , 1991, and 1993 for sparring. He also won European gold medals in both sparring and destruction categories. Master Ogborne is proud to be a founder member of PUMA which was launched in 2000 by the father of TKD General Choi Hong Hi. He continues to love and teach the martial art that we all know.

Master Ogborne loves summer camp and hopes to see everyone there so they can create their own memories as good as his!

These are some of the Senior grades and instructors that give up their time to help teach on PUMA Summer Camp.

Louise Reeve IV

RGN, RSCN, BA (Hons), F.A.S.T. Trainer and Bullet (1st ever female certified Bulletman)

Senior Instructor Clifton and Henleaze Schools of Taekwon Do.
Started training in 1994 with Master John Black. Moved to Bristol for work and trained at the Academy.
Transferred to Yate and Master Gayle in 2000 upon learning of the formation of P.U.M.A.
I have been a proud student of Yate TKD for 18 years.
I have had the honour of being the Designated Officer for Child Safeguarding since the job was inaugurated almost 15 years ago.A competitive sparrer in the early years – now my passions are effective self defence and real training that can be accomplished by any student who wishes to learn – not just the hard core few.

 

Adam Swain IV

MAdam Swain IVr Swain is a 4th Degree Taekwon-Do student who has been running his own schools for 3 and a half years as well as competing internationally for P.U.M.A. for 10 years. Recently he won a Silver in Patterns at the ITF European Championships. Mr Swain is also a part of P.U.M.A.s Technical Committee, with a passion for standardising and improving the technical standard throughout P.U.M.A.

 

Jennifer Swain IV

Mrs Swain is a 4th degree black belt with numerous competition titles including: World Patterns Champion, European Patterns Champion, and in recent years 2x European Silver Medallist in 4th-6th Degree Patterns. Anyone who has seen Mrs Swain train or perform will know of her fantastic kicking ability and leg control, which is admired on the international competition circuit!

 

Mark McLaren IV

Mark McLaren IV

Mr Mark McLaren, known to hisfriends as Mak is a 4th degree black belt who trains (and occasionally teaches) in Swindon, under Master Gayle.

He has been training in martial arts for 33 years and specifically in Tae Kwon Do (TKD) for over 29 years. He is a qualified TKD umpire, referee and instructor. Mr McLaren is currently the senior referee for PUMA – duties include training & maintaining standards of tournament referees & umpires.

Mr McLaren has hosted seminars on various aspects of martial arts in general, and TKD specifically, for many years including at Summer Camp and PUMA Day.

During his 33 years training in martial arts he has practised several different style including: Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Jeet Kune Do Kung Fu, Kali (Filipino weapons fighting), Savate (French kickboxing), Kickboxing, Lau Gar Kung Fu and Wing Chung Kung Fu. Of these, Aikido was the first martial he studied and did this for over 2 years. It had a huge impact on his mindset as a martial artist and a person; he still practice some of it’s principles to this day.
